Most. Nasrin Akhter, PhD
Professor, Department of Mathematics, DUET, Gazipur
Dr. Most. Nasrin Akhter is a distinguished Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Gazipur, Bangladesh. With over two decades of academic experience, she has been serving as a core faculty member at DUET since 2001. Dr. Akhter earned her undergraduate degree in Mathematics (1999) and a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics (2000) both from Rajshahi University, Bangladesh. In recognition of her expertise and academic contributions, she was promoted to the rank of Full Professor in 2015. Additionally, Dr. Akhter served as the Chairman of the Department of Mathematics at DUET for two years, from 2016 to 2018, where she played a key leadership role in departmental development and faculty coordination.
In addition to her role at DUET, Dr. Akhter has gained valuable teaching experience at North South University, where she is serving since January’ 2015. Her long career reflects not only her academic dedication but also her significant impact on the growth and development of mathematics education in Bangladesh.
Dr. Akhter obtained her Ph.D. in Aerodynamics from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Iwate University, Japan in 2008 under the guidance of Professor Ken-ichi Funazaki. Her doctoral research was pioneering, during which she developed a novel turbulence model, the k-ω-γ model, which has become a significant contribution in the field of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Following her Ph.D., she also worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at Professor Funazaki’s Aerodynamics and CFD Laboratory at Iwate University, Japan.
Dr. Akhter’s academic journey has been complemented by her involvement in numerous research and development initiatives. She was appointed as an Associate Member of the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP), a project under the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh in 2012. She also completed an intensive training program on Ansys Fluent software at the University of Sheffield, England, in 2013.
Her research interests are centered around Computational Fluid Dynamics, Turbulent Flow Modelling, Blood Flow Dynamics, Pollution Dispersion and Reduction in Urban Areas, Nanofluid Flow, and Epidemic Modelling, often utilizing parallel computing techniques with tools like House Code, Ansys Fluent and MATLAB. Dr. Akhter has developed her own CFD research laboratory at DUET under the HEQEP project and has received various research grants from the Ministry of Science and Technology and DUET.
Dr. Akhter is passionate about mentoring the next generation researchers. She has supervised numerous undergraduate, Master's, M.Phil, and Ph.D. students. As of now, she has successfully mentored six M.Phil, and one Ph.D. student. Her scholarly work includes the publication of 29 peer-reviewed articles in national and international journals, and she has actively participated in over 10 (ten) international conferences both at home and abroad. Her work has earned her respect in the academic community, particularly within the domain of higher education in Bangladesh. She remains committed to advancing both her teaching and research and further contributing to the global scientific community.
Beyond her research and academic duties, Dr. Akhter is also a strong advocate for women's rights and gender equity. She has held leadership roles such as the Women's Secretary of the DUET Teachers Association. Dr. Akhter is also a life member of Bangladesh Women in Mathematics and works actively to encourage female students to pursue careers in Mathematics and Science, fostering their contribution to the sustainable development of Bangladesh.
Dr. Nasrin Akhter’s commitment to academic excellence, gender empowerment, and research innovation has made her a respected figure in the academic community, both in Bangladesh and internationally.
